“Unleashed” is a hauntingly beautiful Native American style flute single from Diane Wheeler Dunn. Also a photographer and philosopher as well as an avid flower gardener, Diane combines her passions to create unique works that reflect her deep spirituality while bringing a peaceful kind of musical beauty to her listeners. In a recent blog, Diane explains:

“This song started out as unleashing a bit of jazziness after listening to Coltrane, and sometimes you just want to have some fun. However, I think there could be a more universal sense here. Unleashing our creative energies in a positive way will help balance the negative activities in our world. Unleashing our compassion for those who are suffering from the actions of those who are seeking power will bring us closer together. The Great Turning is shifting the paradigms of our cultures and has created and will create additional upheaval by those who cannot abide the changes. We can create positive energy too!

“We each have unique gifts to help create a more beautiful world!

“Unleash!”

Instrumentation on this piece includes Native American flutes, rhythmic and atmospheric keyboard sounds, and percussion (drums, rattles, etc.). At a bit over seven minutes, it is very easy to slip into a meditative state as the various elements in the music soothe and create a place of peaceful reflection. Some of the flute passages have a strong jazz influence and then slip back to a more traditional Native American style. It’s a fascinating piece of music from an exceptional artist.

“Unleashed” is available as a download and/or to stream from Amazon, Apple Music/iTunes and sites like Spotify. Recommended!

The combination of keyboards, flute and percussion give the listener a very compelling and interesting narrative to enjoy on this latest single by Diane Wheeler Dunn entitled Unleashed.

The vibrancy of this Native American Flute Styled performance is so very evident and packed full of colourful segments and textures, the percussive elements added at around the half way juncture; only go to add more layers to an already masterful and crafted presentation.

Diane Wheeler Dunn has been taking the flute scene with a flourish in the last few months, and this rhythmic and almost ritualistic opus will only go to further cement her ever growing fan base.

The Native American Style flute of Diane Wheeler Dunn has become somewhat of a sought after commodity on our radio station, her calming tones, smooth presentations and harmonic convergences of sound are quite remarkably beautiful, and here on this new single called Woodland Paintings that theme continues.

A mixture of a natural performance in a variety of pitches can be found here, this is music to raise the spirit and bring some of the beauty back to our lives. Diane Wheeler Dunn’s performance on this new single Woodland Paintings is transcendent and wonderfully meditative, and I am sure one that will be a big hit with the Native American Style flute community, and lovers of descriptive artistic music in genera

“Woodland Paintings” (single) by Diane Wheeler Dunn is tranquility set to music. A soulful Native American style flutist, the instrumentation also includes keyboard washes and occasional bell-like tones that combine to evoke images of sunlight filtering down through the trees of a forest with both majesty and grace. Quoting a recent blog on Diane’s website:

“Trees are rooted, they can see from high above and below ground, they know the creatures who visit them, how to survive in varying weather conditions, and what’s best to bring up their offspring.

“When I go into the forest, I feel as if I am entering a cathedral. The air is different, the light and the sound sharpen my attention. Wind becomes breath, breath becomes song. Breath interchanging, trees inhaling our exhales and vice versa. The woodlands contain wisdom of which I can only scratch at the surface.”

More ambient than melodic, the pace of the music is slow and fluid, casting a magical spell as it soothes and relaxes. Forests and other groves of trees are wonderful places to experience
nature’s artistry, and this music reflects that so well.

Mystery in the Mist

There is a wonderful hovering intensity in this single, one that I haven’t heard the like of since a performance by Gheorghe Zamfir in the movie Picnic at Hanging Rock way back in ‘75. Diane Wheeler Dunn and Mystery in the Mist is a sublime and mystical opus of sound, created by the Native American style flautist in a wonderful moment of artistic brilliance.

This ever drifting tone and timbre of Native American style flute vibrations is utterly addictive, one could listen to this new single on repeat for simply hours and never tire of its structures and compositionally crafted cleverness. Mystery in the Mist by Diane Wheeler Dunn is a piece that deserves to be part of a movie soundtrack it is that good, and it is one that I urge all musical aficionados to seek out and purchase at the earliest of moments, you will not regret a second or a cent of it.
