Soaring Hawk

“When it flies, the hawk flaps its wings rapidly, and then uses that momentum to glide smoothly and gracefully through the air.[13]” Wikipedia

From the hawk’s perspective, soaring on the wind, high above the earth, there are no county lines, state lines, or borders. Fences are something they perch on. Flying free from cultural restrictions, they live the life they were born to live.

We are all one. Earth is all one.

I’ve received a couple of interpretations from friends on this song; that it is a courting song and that the higher flute is mournful. I was envisioning the dance between the predator and prey when I wrote it.

“I am the hawk and there’s blood in my feathers, but time is still turning they soon will be dry. And all those who see me and all who believe in me, share in the freedom I feel when I fly.” – John Denver
